[Special thanks to the publisher for the review copy!]
When BFFs Charlie, Taylor and Jamie go to SupaCon, they know it’s going to be a blast. What they don’t expect is for it to change their lives forever.
Charlie likes to stand out. SupaCon is her chance to show fans she’s over her public breakup with co-star, Reese Ryan. When Alyssa Huntington arrives as a surprise guest, it seems Charlie’s long-time crush on her isn’t as one-sided as she thought.
While Charlie dodges questions about her personal life, Taylor starts asking questions about her own.
Taylor likes to blend in. Her brain is wired differently, making her fear change. And there’s one thing in her life she knows will never change: her friendship with Jamie—no matter how much she may secretly want it to. But when she hears about the Queen Firestone SupaFan Contest, she starts to rethink her rules on playing it safe.
AHHHH I’VE MISSED SWOON SATURDAYS SO MUCH.
It’s great to be back – with Queens of Geek as the featured book!
THE FANDOM SPIRIT IS SO STRONG IN THIS ONE.
Taylor is the ultimate fan of the Firestone series and her posts about her SupaCon experience are the best! Fangirls will find her INTENSELY relatable because we understand the struggle!
Charlie the Vlogger/Actress is #goals. Except for her breakup with Reese, that is. Despite the fame, she’s humble, and deep inside, she just wanted to move forward with her life.
The “third friend” is Jamie-
JAMIE GARCIA MY LOVE WHY AREN’T YOU REAL?
He shined in this book. I mean, looking back at my tweets while reading, I swooned for him so much!
I shipped him with Taylor right from the start. And towards the end of the book, I was just screaming TAYMIE, TAYMIE, TAYMIE! ❤
What I love about this book is its diversity despite being anchored in a truckload of fandom feels and romance to swoon for. I love that Queens of Geek presented important matters in a lighthearted way – the kind that makes you understand slowly, but surely.
Josie is a girl who shared the same condition with Taylor. They talked about how they cope with autism spectrum disorder. And it is during this encounter that I read the most powerful lines in the book.
I hope this quote made it to the final copy because I’ll be quoting from an ARC:
You are not weak. People like us, we’re brave. We’re the ones who get up and face our worst fears every day. We keep fighting.
Diversity is also portrayed in Charlie’s bisexuality. I find her scenes with Alyssa very cute because it was refreshing to read something like their relationship . I swooned for them as well. (THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE SCENE FOR THE WIN!)
This book reminded me of All the Feels WHICH IS SUPER GREAT BECAUSE DANIKA AND JEN ARE BOTH SO AWESOME that I’m secretly hoping they’d collaborate and let their worlds collide. ❤
I didn’t need to compute for the rating of this book because I gave it 5 stars right away. (Even just the cover deserves 5 stars already!)
Queens of Geek is a story for those who feel the need for superheroes. Life is hard, but there are people in your life (and the friends you haven’t met yet!) who will help you get through the hard times. We are kings and queens at heart for surviving each day, and this empowering book is for us. ❤
Final Rating: 5/5
